Description
The unique waters of Timor Leste and the Wetar Straight are the seasonal migratory pathway for pygmy Blue whales. These “pygmy” Blues are giants, reaching a maximum length of up to 24 metres!! After spending the winter in the Banda Sea birthing and mating they are returning to the abundant feeding grounds off SouthWest Australia.
As well as Blue whales, there are resident pods of Sperm Whales regularly seen in the area, not to mention large schools of a variety of dolphins, Pilot whales and sometimes Orcas!!
We operate out of fast boats 8-10 metres in length, powered by quiet and efficient 4 stroke outboards. The boats have ample shade and lunch and refreshments are included. Tropical water temperatures are above 28 degrees C , a light neoprene or lycra suit is all that is required to protect you from the sun and wind.
Our skippers are highly experienced with great local knowledge and a network of fishermen who update us hourly of whale activity. Typically we are on the water around 6 hours each day.
Our accommodation is a very comfortable modern Hotel with air con and wifi. There is a selection of nearby restaurants and in house dining available. we have a private courtyard and pool for relaxing and cooling off.
We offer daily afternoon yoga classes to relax and unwind. Scott offers Freedive and underwater photography workshops to help improve your water skills.
Our group size is limited to 8 guests split between 2 boats with only 4 people in each boat. We are able to search a broader area with 2 boats and is perfect for locating and tracking the whales. With only 4 people in the water we will have closer and more intimate encounters with these sometimes shy giants.
The trip is 1 week long with 5 days on the water and plenty of afternoon relaxation time.
